Westward Ho! – A Photographer’s Dream
Westward Ho! is one of my favorite spots to photograph along the North Devon coast. As a landscape photographer, I’m always drawn to locations that offer a dynamic blend of natural beauty and rugged terrain, and Westward Ho! never disappoints. The beach, with its striking pebble ridge and weathered rock formations, creates the perfect setting for dramatic seascapes. The rugged rocks, sculpted by the relentless tides, add layers of texture and contrast, especially during low tide when they’re fully exposed.
What I love most is the way the terrain changes throughout the day. During golden hour, the light dances across the wet sand and rugged rocks, creating incredible reflections. On stormier days, the jagged terrain combined with crashing waves gives the landscape a raw, untamed feel that’s irresistible to capture. The way the sky meets the ever-shifting tides creates an entirely new scene every visit, keeping me inspired as a photographer.
Even after countless shoots here, Westward Ho! continues to surprise me. I’ve captured everything from tranquil sunsets to fierce coastal storms, each offering a new perspective. It’s a place where patience truly pays off—waiting for that perfect moment when the light, sky, and sea align can result in breathtaking shots. The sense of peace and adventure in this location never fails to draw me back for more. For me, Westward Ho! isn’t just a location; it’s a constant source of inspiration that feeds my passion for capturing the beauty of North Devon’s coastline.
